Reward for Top Scorer Students

Most of Tigray children lagged 2-4 years behind education as the result  of the Covid-19 and the war in Northern Ethiopia’s Tigray. Almost a year after the Pretoria peace agreement in the year 2023’s Ethiopian 12th grade students school leaving exams, only 3.3% of the 896,520 students who took the exam achieved above 50% score across the country. Remarkably, more than 66.96 % of Tigray Region students who took the school leaving exams achieved a passing mark of 50% which qualify them to join the university. They must have been resilient enough to devote on their academic career despite the destructive war that affected their and their family’s life. To appreciate such academic exemplary, Gumaye Foundation granted an amount of 200,000 Ethiopian Birr to 33 special students who succeed with the highest score, on 29 November, 2023, in the hands of Mr. Getachew Reda, president of Tigray Interim Regional Administration, and Dr. Kiros Guesh, head of Tigray Education Bureau.
